In the realm of edible mushrooms, China is undeniably a dominant powerhouse. But what about the production scenarios of edible mushrooms in the rest of the world?

In various previous reports, I’ve often mentioned that excluding China, the total production of edible mushrooms in other countries and regions around the world is approximately 3 million tons. However, today, to ensure the accuracy of the information, I specifically consulted the data from FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) to verify this judgment.
Upon verification, in 2023, excluding China (including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan regions), the total production of edible mushrooms in other countries and regions around the world reached 3.03 million tons. Among them, the official FAO data is 2.8607 million tons. It should be noted here that the actual production of South Korea should be an additional 170,000 tons on top of the FAO data. In this year, there were 26 countries with an edible mushroom production exceeding 10,000 tons.
Looking at 2022, 同样 excluding China (including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan regions), the total production of edible mushrooms in other countries and regions around the world was 3.09 million tons. Among them, the FAO recorded data is 2.9209 million tons, and South Korea needs to be supplemented with an additional 170,000 tons. In this year, the number of countries with a production exceeding 10,000 tons was 27.
It’s worth noting that there are some parts of the FAO data that need to be corrected:
- The production of Italy was once misrecorded. The actual production should be 60,000 tons, not the previously recorded 600,000 tons.
- The estimated value of South Korea’s production has a large deviation. The true production should be around 190,000 tons, not 20,000 tons.
- The estimated value of China’s data also has certain errors. The data volume is too large and does not conform to the actual situation.
